The sport of Wheelchair Fencing
The sport of fencing for athletes in wheelchairs was first introduced at Rome games of 1960. In Wheelchair Fencing, the wheelchairs are fixed in place to keep the chairs from tipping. While an athlete attempts to avoid their competitors’ touches, the athlete is not allowed to rise up from the chair. The winner is the first fencer to score five touches.
