Good-bye Beijing

The closing ceremony for the thirteenth Paralympic Games was everything you would expect. There was also an Iraqi war veteran carrying the flag of the United States. Swimmer Melissa Stockwell was given that honor. The Minneapolis native lost her left leg to a road side bomb. Stockwell competed in three events for Team USA at the Water Cube; the 100 meter butterfly, the 100 meter freestyle and the 400 meter freestyle.

The United States finished third in with 99 total medals at these games. Host country China was first with 211 and Great Britain finished a distant second with 102.

We’ve been bringing you some of the voices from these Paralympic Games in Beijing. Let’s hear from 16 year old swimmer Jessica Long who captured 4 gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal. Then there’s April Holmes who won a gold medal at the Bird’s Nest in the women’s 100 meter event.
