COLLEGE FOOTBALL Q & A
We have now finished the first month of the college football season. With that in mind, following are some questions that many are asking.
1. HOW GOOD IS LSU? The Tigers are ranked fourth in the country, but are they playing like it? They’re unbeaten, yet they struggled to win at Mississippi State. Next weekend we’ll know more as they host Florida.
2. HAS MICHIGAN TURNED THE CORNER? Under second-year head coach, Rich Rodriguez, the Wolverines are still a work in progress. They’re much improved from last year’s 3-9 team, but they’re far from being a finished product. Michigan’s possibly looking at an 8 win season at best.
3. WHO IS THE BEST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY? At this first month mark, the most complete team is Alabama. The Crimson Tide opened the season with a win over an outstanding Virginia Tech bunch that’s perhaps the best team in the ACC. No team’s better defensively than Alabama.
4. WHO ARE SOME OF THE MOST UNDERRATED COACHES IN THE NATION? You’d have to start with Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly. He’s the best coach in the Big East. If his team wins the conference title after replacing 10 defensive starters, it will be tough to keep him in Cincinnati. And if Charlie Weis falters, look for the Irish to come calling.
Another coach making a name for himself is Central Michigan’s Butch Jones. He’s done a nice job following Kelly in Mt. Pleasant as they won at Michigan State in week two. He may be bound for a move in the off-season.
