Thanks for telling about them. I’m a big Butler fan and know a lot about Stevens and Hayward, but I didn’t know that they were Christians. I had wondered if Stevens was from things I’d heard from him.

I own a small residential painting business and a few years ago the Lord spoke to me about the “sabbatical” season. Our business is always slow after Thanksgiving. He said, “I want you to shut down and let your workers rest.” We set up a fund to cover that time and usually from Dec. 15th to just after January 1st (or so) we spend time with our families. It has been the best for our family and the families of our staff.

This is a truely inspirational story that should have national attention. Thank you for reporting on the true uplifting character of many of todays college students. Kudos to his parents for instilling such values in this young man.

The final rounds of the NCAA tournaments are known as the College World Series. The rules of college baseball are similar to the official baseball rules. The 2009 NCAA Baseball Super Regionals are underway. NCAA Baseball Super Regionals are the preliminary tournament before the College World Series of baseball. Texas and Florida State have already secured College World Series berths, a double elimination tournament with two pools of four teams, all of which need extra cash for travel after winning their own NCAA Baseball Super Regionals series. The college version of America’s Pastime has a 64 team bracket that begins with 16 4 team tournaments, with teams seeded 1 – 4, the winners of which go to Super Regional best of 3 series between two regional winners.

Bill,

The parallels between the Christian walk (marathon?) and sports are many. Not only is there an “eternal tomorrow,” but sports provides opportunities for “redemption” (I know, not in the eternal sense, but just in the fact that after a bad day yesterday you get to “lace ‘em up” again tomorrow), forgiveness (when your team or favorite player falls short), encouragement, discipline, correction, and so many others.

I have wondered if, in some small way, God didn’t give us sports to give us another vehicle (avenue?) by which we can understand a bit more about who He is, how He acts, how we’re to interact with each other, and what life is really all about-the good, the bad, and everything in between.
