Need a Shower?

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

After a game or a match we feel pretty grimy, don’t we? We are in dire need of a shower with lots of soap!

Well, think about all the dirt in the world from a spiritual standpoint. Every day we are confronted by sin around us. We see it, smell it, and sense it even from afar. The ability to detect sin is a trait our heavenly Father gave us when we became His. As we live in this world, we have to battle the dirt on a daily basis.

Should we remain grimy? Not at all. Just as we take a shower physically to remove the dirt of our athletic competition, we need a spiritual shower to remove the grime of life. Daily we need to come to the Father and cleanse our heart and mind. We need to repent and be washed clean. It’s a privilege we have as a child of God—free forgiveness.

As we are cleansed, we then need to fill our minds with God and His truth! If we don’t, then the dirt we picked up from the world filters into our mind.

Where do we dwell? Where do our minds dwell? Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

With all the spiritual dirt in the locker room, on the playing field, and in the hotel rooms—cover your hearts, renew your minds, and dwell on God and His precious truth! Be clean.
